Why the Leadership Programme is Important

Purpose          Passion          Potential​

​

•  The Leadership Programme is for all students who wish to participate, leaders and followers alike

•  The Leadership Programme is voluntary and open to all students who are interested

•  Everyone is welcome but the Programme is aspirational because it attracts the student leaders of the school

•  Inspires a will to win and the courage to achieve their personal best for each and every student, whatever that means to them

 

•  Honours all cultures and religions

 

•  Respectful of the LGBTQ community


•  Delivers leadership and life lessons for specific year group

•  Students are encouraged to attend the seminars for their year group twice a term

 

•  New Zealand Curriculum Five Key Competencies: Thinking, Using Language Symbols and Text, Managing Self, Relating to Others, and       

    Participating and Contributing


•  The Leadership Programme and the Leadership Director sends a clear message that character and leadership go hand in hand. The 

    Leadership Programme connects leadership and character with education, hard work and achievement.

•. Provides teaching around why it is important to do the right thing and how fun it is to do your personal best without comparing to others.


•  Highlights the importance of getting an education and learning at school. The time at school is precious.

•  Highlights the importance of attitude and attendance

•  For students who wish to commit to the Leadership Programme in greater depth there is the option to do so through a 'Learning Leadership'

    series written by Dr Timothy Hawkes, the Principal of The Kings School in Sydney.

•  Supports modern day teaching from Martha Beck an American Life Coach with a PhD from Harvard University

•  For students who wish to take a more committed approach to the programme they will be recognised through an award scheme where they

    have the chance to gain a gold, silver, or bronze award for attitude, attendance, community service inside and outside of school, and       

    participation of the formal leadership programme (including completion of Learning Leadership text).

•  Teaches goal setting

•  Encourages students to have BHAGs – Big Hairy Audacious Goals

•  Discusses current events

 

•  Encourages reading

•  Discusses social issues specific to their age group, eg: bullying, vaping, the affects of social media, relationships, etc

•  Makes the counsellor more accessible

•  Helps students think about life outside of school and after their time at school and what they might like to do to contribute to the community

    and the world at large.
